My two decade ‘life-o-logue’ with travelogue
Travelling got seeded and evolved over the years. It started as a family bonding and annual work breaks taking off to non-polluted get aways with family and children together , especially to escape the (AQI-Air quality index) we claim in India!
Incidentally as I look back, many of the first trip and get away opportunities that life gave during my school and college growing- I never took!
A quintessentially reserved and not an avid outdoor /travel crazy young adult……I almost found myself – at loss on what to do those 2-3 days of our college and post graduation trips !
And where am I today!?
‘Life is unpredictable’ – never take this statement lightly.
Somewhere down the maturing years of playing a working woman, a mother and a wife to a equally busy husband (as normally it is )… I took my first so called independent trip with my 12 year old daughter.
My professional work had already taken me to many cities in India, the only state, which was rich enough and unknown to me then , in 2009 was Madhya Pradesh. The initial apprehensions and nervousness of two women got converted into a memorable trip! Not only did it bring a mom and daughter closer , it broke the need of a man or support system for travel!
And then there was no going back from 2010 onwards!
With large parts of my life and work being based in the land of Gods – Uttarakhand (Himalayan region) of India ; life threw ample opportunities for me to take new trips and challenges. I was lucky to have my husband too a happy traveler back then. Most of the trips of 2010-2015 were in the districts and summits of Uttarakhand. Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Ladakh, Himachal, Kashmir and many more untrodden destinations within these .
Curiousities landed me into those places which were unheard of back then !
Patal Bhuvaneswar ( A mini Natural rock creation narrating stories of the creation and anihilation of our Universe!)…..yeah really mystical and still shocking to me finding this place in the Himalayan heights of Uttarakhand , and Munsiyari …….was a 3 ‘women’s only trip’ with age ranges 26 to 50 years. I believe meeting and overcoming some of the threatening challenges which we overcame …….set the ball of my ‘travel life’ and powering my ‘beingness’ with travels – rolling !
Full of adventures, mystical experiences and spiritual growth , not only this 10 days full on – road trip starting from Himalayan Hospital (Dehradun ) to highest motorable altitude and base camp –Munsiyari (Munsiyari serves as a base for several Himalayan treks, most notably the Nanda devi East base campo trek in district Pithoragarh, in Uttarakhand, India)- and back gave us a taste of fighting risks and emerging stronger ; it also kick started the craze of being in unknown and new spaces ! So the tribal hamlets and snow-covered peaks pulled me out on long weekends for drives and treks.
Overseas, have had the opportunity to closely experience Bali and South Asian living ; Egypt and Mediterranean, Spain, Turkey, Portugal . Many more on cards ….God’s will !
I tend to take a bit of detours , prefer the ‘unconventional places’ , bringing elements of adventure and uncertainty and some of them being like a laid back plans !
That is how we ‘Power ourselves’ …do we ?
Though I shall be glad to guide even the most laid-back traveller .
I have done three treks to Kedarnath valley, Pondicherry, Auroville (Partly under Tamil Nadu state and partly a UT , an experimental city set up under ‘Mother’ – Mira Alfassa (soul mate of Sri Aurobindo)
Ajanta & Ellora world’s largest Monolithic and UNESCO Site were latest add on .
What stimulates me to pack and go?
The inner energy state – “mood”.
Sometimes it’s the solemn energy, sometimes the ‘bored with life energy’ , sometimes ‘to discover something new energy’ , and most time to change my ‘inner self’ to a different ‘track’ …whatever that means …..!!
So, Holi of Mathura, Dev Deepawali of Benares, great hornbill festival of Nagaland, winter festivals of “Dooars” forest of West Bengal, Goa in monsoon, Western Ghats …. these pulled me ‘out and into’ ………at different zones of my life!
